Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is a large city known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life.

Bangkok's multi-faceted sights, attractions and city life appeal to diverse groups of tourists. Royal palaces and temples as well as several museums constitute its major historical and cultural tourist attractions. The city is also famous for its dynamic nightlife.

Among Bangkok's well-known sights are the Grand Palace and major Buddhist temples, including Wat Phra KaewWat Pho, and Wat Arun. The Giant Swing and Erawan Shrine demonstrate Hinduism's deep-rooted influence in Thai culture. Vimanmek Mansion in Dusit Palace is famous as the world's largest teak building, while the Jim Thompson House provides an example of traditional Thai architecture. Other major museums include the Bangkok National Museum and the Royal Barge National Museum. Cruises and boat trips on the Chao Phraya and the canals of Thonburi offer views of some of the city's traditional architecture and ways of life on the waterfront.

Currency

The currency is Baht (THB), exchange rate as of 30 January 2024 is US$ 1 = THB 35 – THB 36 approximately.  Exchange facilities are available at the airport and various banks within the city.

Weather in Bangkok

The average temperature in November may range between 25°C to 31°C. Participants are advised to bring light and comfortable clothing, especially outdoors, However, a rain shower is expected, therefore, it would be safer to bring an umbrella when planning to roam around Bangkok. It is also advisable to bring your own appropriate clothes (a light jacket/shawl or scarf for women) as the meeting room will be fully air-conditioned.

Language

The official language is Thai.  Some English is spoken in hotels and tourism services.

Electricity Supply

The power supply in Thailand is 220V/50Hz. Participants are advised to bring their own electrical adaptors if required. Thailand power plug (socket) types are illustrated as follows.
