How we help

Mobility and linkages are key strategies for SEAMEO RIHED to advance the harmonisation and internationalisation processes of higher education towards a more inclusive and sustainable region. SEAMEO RIHED’s flagship mobility initiative, the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Programme, will continue to explore innovative approaches to learning and integration of appropriate technologies for mobility, as well as promote university contributions in addressing societal challenges for a sustainable future. Intra-regional networks such as the Greater Mekong Subregion University Consortium (GMS-UC), provide a platform to foster experience sharing, mutual partnerships and the provision of technical support from the SEAMEO Region and international partners in the form of capacity enhancement opportunities. In addition to intra-regional networks, SEAMEO RIHED has coordinated the establishment of inter-regional networks, including 3 networks established in coordination with the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), and is actively exploring strategic inter-regional exchange between Southeast Asia and Europe and other regions of the world to facilitate greater connectivity and development.

The AIMS Programme

The AIMS Programme is SEAMEO RIHED’s regional initiative to support the mobility of students and enhance cooperation in higher education among countries in Asia. Connecting governments, universities and students, the AIMS Programme provides a multilateral platform for academic exchange and collaboration to strengthen regional integration and community building. It provides students with opportunities to study abroad within selected disciplines and advance their learning and intercultural skills as confident global citizens. A Note Regarding COVID-19 and Mobility

Due to the ongoing challenges due to the pandemic, the sending and receiving of international students continues to be affected across Member Countries and participating universities in our networks. To continue to encourage mobility in this next new normal context, virtual mobility, virtual exchange and other blended and innovative possibilities can allow students to participate in different collaborative and inter-cultural learning activities offered at institutions abroad without physically having to travel. While virtual mobility or exchange is not a replacement for traditional physical mobility, we realise the great potential it can offer the region in enhancing connectivity and expanding collaborative partnerships.
