Research Networking Forum on Thematic Area 2:
Collaborative River Governance and Management
14-16 September 2023
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
From 14-16 September 2023, 25 university researchers representing Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries came together in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for an intensive Researcher Networking Forum. These researchers, nominated by their governments from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, actively engaged and established a strong network in the thematic area of Collaborative River Governance and Management.
Ms. Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Consul-General of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, delivered an inspiring opening address, highlighting the importance of cross-border research collaboration to address common river-related challenges in our region for sustainable development.
Researchers with shared interests in River Governance and Management discussed, exchanged expertise, and initiated joint research collaborations. These collaborations will be further developed in the upcoming Researcher Exchange Programme scheduled for November 2023. During the exchange, each group of researchers will learn from host universities specializing in river management within the SEAMEO region.
In addition to the forum, our nominated researchers had the opportunity to visit the ASIAN Water Research Centre, CARE Rescif, University of Technology, VNU-HCM. Here, they learned from Vietnamese and French researchers who are experts in river management, gaining insights into ongoing research projects and best practices. The discussions were dynamic and interactive!
