SEAMEO RIHED’s New Project with the British Council on Strengthening Leadership with Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity in HEIs in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Timor-Leste

SEAMEO RIHED is embarking on a new Project on Strengthening Leadership with Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity in Higher Education Institutions in the GMS Region and Timor-Leste in 2022-2023, funded through the British Council’s Going Global Partnership Programme. This Project is a part of SEAMEO RIHED’s Programme on Enhancing Capacities for Collective Learning and Continuous Development of Higher Education Institutions in the SEAMEO Region, which comprises 4 key components: 1) Futuristic leadership and good governance, 2) Innovative teaching and learning, 3) Sustainable research ecosystems and 4) Future-oriented Internationalisation (ISN) of Higher Education Institutions in the SEAMEO Region. This project contributes to the component area of futuristic leadership and good governance. For more information on the Programme, please visit: https://rihed.seameo.org/what-we-do/leadership/

Recognising the potential contributions of the GMS and Timor-Leste and the crucial role of their higher education institutions for regional sustainable development as well as the importance of collective efforts towards a sustainable future of the Southeast Asian region, the Project engages 35 nominated universities from 11 SEAMEO Member Countries, together with 4 UK universities. It aims to create a sustainable network of university leaders to promote gender equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) by providing a common space for the sharing of leadership tools as well as igniting new ideas and initiatives that will lead to the successful management of higher education institutions and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG4 (Quality Education), SDG5 (Gender Equality), and SDG17 (Partnerships). SEAMEO RIHED and the British Council are planning the following three core activities:

  1. Pre- and post-forum with key stakeholders
  2. Three-day leadership training (virtual)
  3. The UK-SEA Leadership Exchange Grant

To ensure the delivery of project activities, we are launching a Call for a UK Consultant and a Call for UK Universities to work with our university counterparts from the Southeast Asian region on carrying out the objectives of the Project. More details can be found at:
