Special Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (Special SOM-ED) on Higher Education and Technical Meeting of ASEAN Higher Education Experts

SEAMEO RIHED has the pleasure to participate at the Special Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (Special SOM-ED) on Higher Education and Technical Meeting of ASEAN Higher Education Experts on 10-11 April 2017, in Jakarta, Indonesia, organised by the ASEAN Secretariat and the European Union Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN region (SHARE).

 

The Special SOM-ED on Higher Education and Technical Meeting of ASEAN Higher Education Experts brought together over 60 delegates comprising senior officials in higher education from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and representatives from SEAMEO RIHED, SEAMEO Secretariat, ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), ASEAN University Network (AUN) Secretariat, AUN Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net), ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF), Asia-Europe Institute, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. SEAMEO RIHED would like to express appreciation to SHARE and the ASEAN Secretariat for hosting the Meetings.

 

The delegates of the Meetings shared updates on higher education activities under ASEAN and partner organisations, and explored ways to synergise efforts in higher education development and harmonisation for the benefits of the Southeast Asian region, in particular on scholarship and student mobility, credit transfer, Qualifications Framework, and Quality Assurance. The Meetings also discussed ways to align higher education initiatives and improve coordination between organisations working on higher education in the region. Ms. Phunyanuch Pattanotai (Aom), Programme Director of SEAMEO RIHED, provided updates and progress of SEAMEO RIHED’s work on student mobility and credit transfer at the Meetings.
